Gahwa (Arabic Coffee)

To make the traditional Gahwa or the Arabic coffee, toasted and ground coffee beans are placed into a pot with boiling water. Upon arrival of guests, the brewed coffee would be poured into a smaller pot and spices such cardamom, saffron, or rose water would be added to enrich its taste and aroma. The coffee is then poured into a serving pot, and held in the servers’ left hand, the right hand would serve coffee in a tiny cup known as a ‘finyal’, filled less than half, to allow the coffee to cool rapidly.
